Sometimes, like today, I wake up with the smile not so very far away.
\nI’m talking about those moments when the invisible become seen
\nas though suddenly,
\nlike a flower opening when I’m not looking.
\nSometimes we wake up screaming.
\n“It’s a light strand of energy going from here,
\nto here,”
\nShe gestures to her heart,
\ntries to describe the treasure that can’t be measured by the gold standard,
\nan ethic that isn’t exclusive,
\nmarriage as a constellation.<\/p>\n
these promises become the ways our bodies move, they pulse with our hearts, not just for mine and what’s mine, promises that are ours.<\/p>\n
Metanoia, a transformative change
\nof body, change of mind, of heart.
\nRepentance, an acknowledgement of responsibility, an acknowledgement of harm done, and a vow catapulting into action into living, breathing, moving form, to do different this time.\u00a0 Metanoia, a meditation we can direct towards the light.<\/p>\n
Sometimes the change is disguised as
\nDespair
\nas a break
\nan encounter with Hell, we see it so clearly
\nbelieving the worst as we
\ntouch down into the darkest place, the flat line, even, the end.
\nI want to move, the soul whispers, stuck, pasted to the wall.
\nAnd what is it that brings us back?<\/p>\n
I have been saved many times by people whose names I do not know.
\nTheir faces, I don’t remember.
\nBut their promises made my heart beat again.
\nStay.\u00a0\u00a0 Stay.
\nThere are those whose kindness got my body breathing again
\nwhen I was far from the surface.<\/p>\n
The secret is
\nthat we have always been directed toward the light.
\nWe know this if we open our eyes, pause a moment to enjoy how
\nthis moment is
\npainted with breathtaking exactitude,
\na miraculous alchemy
\nof light and time and distance and vantage point.<\/p>\n
We must save each other
\nevery day.\u00a0 This is our work.
\nAnd especially today, when the smile is so close to the surface
